The green roof was installed on the Rutgers Church's five-story Classical Revival-styled commercial and office building at 2095 Broadway.
The green roof installation was part of a 6,700-square-foot roof replacement that included converting part of the roof for recreational use.
The eight-inch deep garden planter bed is made out of 100% recycled high-density polyethylene and filled with engineered soil. The church is growing a variety of vegetables in it, including tomatoes, peas, and watermelon.
Rutgers Presbyterian Church’s new green roof is planted with a sedum mix, coneflowers, and switch grass.
The garden consists of 312 pre-vegetated modular trays.
