Nearly 1,400 windows were replaced at 60 Remsen Street (left), located in the first historic district established in New York City. Aluminum casement windows (right), approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission, met safety, acoustical, cost, and strength requirements.

Scope of Work:
- Replaced 1,397 windows in 377 window openings with new casement, fixed sash, and picture replacement windows in all apartments.
- Replaced new projecting windows at the basement level.
- Single-paned, steel casement windows were replaced with thermally insulated aluminum units for better thermal and acoustical performance.
- Heat-reflecting film on windows facing south and west reduce heat and glare.
- Putty-gray color on inside of windows soften the interior appearance of the black frames while preserving the original architectural look.
- To comply with the Health Department's Window Falls Program, the replacement windows were installed with built-in stops, eliminating the need for traditional window guards with their prison-bar appearance.
