Fun and Recreation

All work and no play is not the RAND way. To foster camaraderie and enjoy each other’s company outside of a formal work setting, RAND sponsors a variety of gatherings, events, and celebrations. Our annual summer and holiday parties have featured a day at the beach, a weekend at a country estate, a cruise aboard a yacht, plays, dinners, and a Cirque du Soleil performance, to name just a few. Our intramural RAND on the Roll bowling league brings out the (sometimes friendly) competition between us, as does our J. P. Morgan Corporate Challenge fun run in Central Park.

Other company sponsored activities include movie nights and lunchtime documentaries, Mets and Nets games (Yankees and Knicks fans also welcomed), a book club, an annual ski trip, Bring Your Dog to Work Day, and of course, informal happy hours. And many of our staff enjoy a break in our recreation room (the walls of which are adorned with our travel souvenirs) to play pool, darts, and board games.

Professional Development

RAND offers regular in-house professional education and training programs that give our staff the opportunity to expand their industry knowledge and skills and for our professional engineers and registered architects to earn continuing education credits toward professional license renewals. In addition, for long-term employees pursuing professional licensure, RAND offers examination preparation and payment toward licensing fees (on a case-by-case basis).

RAND technical staff members also attend courses on scaffold safety training as well as for other certification programs, such as infrared thermography, Special Inspections, and asbestos investigation. In addition, RAND employees host staff and industry seminars on topics ranging from ways to improve workflow to writing better site visit reports to primers on industry topics such as energy efficiency and New York City’s Facade Inspection and Safety Program.

RAND Gives Back

Through our RAND Gives Back program, RAND supports people and organizations in the communities where we live and work through a variety of volunteer efforts and charitable giving. The program offers employees the opportunity to donate their time and talents in ways meaningful to them. Some recent projects and programs that RAND has supported and participated in include, packing together meals for those in need with 9/11 Day, putting together school supplies for NAC, and teamed up with Volunteer NY!, putting together literacy kits for children in need and creating a herb garden for a hands-on learning experience.

RAND off the Clock

RAND employees pursue a variety of hobbies and passions in their spare time, which is one of the things that make RAND a fun and interesting place to work. Our staff members helped out in Super Storm Sandy relief efforts, rappelled down a building for charity, coordinated art classes for handicapped kids, walked dogs at an animal shelter, ran in a Spartan Race, and even earned a pilot’s license.
